Eljen Technology’s plastic scintillators are made from a polyvinyltoluene matrix combined with fluors, which provide each scintillator with its unique properties.

Eljen Technology offers a diverse range of liquid scintillators for nuclear radiation detection, including options for pulse shape discrimination, internal sample counting, external detection, and neutron/gamma detection.

Eljen Technology selection includes materials that absorb light at one wavelength and re-emit it at longer wavelengths, featuring four PVT-based plastics and two paints for thin-film applications.

Numerous light guides have been fabricated by Eljen Technology to meet a wide variety of light collection applications for scintillators. Light guides are always custom made for each customer’s needs. Light guides are fabricated from cast acrylic materials. Cast acrylic generally has good optical clarity, good mechanical properties, and very little natural scintillation response to ionizing radiation.

Eljen Technology provides three neutron detection products with low gamma sensitivity. EJ-410 detects fast neutrons using an acrylic disc with concentric ZnS:Ag rings. EJ-420 and EJ-426 detect thermal neutrons using a ZnS:Ag and Li-6 matrix. EJ-420 comes as a disc, while EJ-426 is available as a disc or sheet with various backing materials.

Eljen Technology provides three ZnS:Ag-coated products for alpha and alpha/beta detection. EJ-440 features a polyester sheet with ZnS:Ag, while EJ-442 uses a non-flexible support. EJ-444, designed for alpha/beta discrimination, consists of a thin EJ-212 plastic scintillator sheet coated with ZnS:Ag.
